Stay Focused and Don't Look Away

Hanging out under this pier for sunrise created so many opportunities to shoot. It was a little frantic because I had numerous options and ideas coming to mind. I tried shooting from far back and up close, super wide angle and telephoto, underneath, from the side, with the sun and without, long exposures and short. You name it, I was scrambling to try 'em all.

The one shot I knew I wanted before I even arrived was a black and white. I've always been drawn to scenes like this in monotone so this was one photograph I tried to definitely "focus" on getting.

I know some people don't like B&W much, but this turned out to be my favorite shot from the entire morning. It just wants to suck me in and I hope you like it as well.

I blogged about all the shots I took that morning. It was a meaningful trip for many reasons, but specifically it was being in that spot that helped me come out of the mental funk I'd been in. I saw the light, both literally and figuratively and I feel much better for it.
